Before we go.....

Just thought I'd show you our lovely housewarming gifts.....in case I fail dismally in figuring out how to do them in the common room! First up, Bodran's wonderful wind-chime....

It's a rotten picture - I'm no photographer - but hopefully you can see the idea.....

We had a huge thunderstorm a little while ago - incredibly dramatic and a brief power cut to go with it. But, from the sound of things, it's been even more insane up north...

And, to the right we have Frances' divine painting....which is now sitting on the mantelpiece in my study......

And, while I have your attention, can anyone tell me what the heck this plant is? it is all over our vegetable garden and I'm assuming it's a weed of some pernicious nature - as nothing benign is that prolific.......awful picture, sorry, if not clear enough will attempt another one on our return - by which time it will probably have taken over the entire garden.....

Yes lovely pressies. I can't identify the weed from that picture, and it wouldn't enlarge.
Have a great holiday. Toady

What lovely lovely present. Am going to ask Bodran about those chimes-know a couple of people that they would make lovely presents for. And I LOVE Frances' painting. What clever purplecooers we have here.

I couldn't enlarge weed photo and identify the weed either.

Have a great holiday and hopefully see you next Friday-can't wait.

warmest wishes
xx

GOrgeous pressies - my sister has a windchime like that, there's a policeman in York copying Bodran!
And Frances - hidden talents, beautiful painting.

If you need a loo-stop or a sandwich or anything in the North Yorks area on your travels, we're only 10 mins off the A1 at Leeming or Catterick, or off the A19 at Northallerton/Tontine. Can't email you my numbers as your site on'w let me in (!), but Milla has my mobile.

POSSIBLY the wild form of ligularia- is the edge of the leaf straight edges or frilled?

Have emailed you a picture of ligularia.....pretty sure that's it. Spreads worse than bracken!!!!!!!!

Dear Jane,
Thank you for your comments, and so kind to invite me to your new abode. Peter wants to move again, I DONT! I am quite happy here and quite settled with the Cottage we have at the moment.

How wonderful to receive a painting from Frances, I just love it. Enjoy your holiday Jane, see you when you get back.

Best of luck in the new house. What great presents! Love the blues in Frances' picture. Look forward to hearing about the battles with the weeds.

Oh help we have that 'plant' in our garden too and I haven't worked out whether it is friend or foe !!

Beautiful gifts - lucky you.

No idea about the plant, though. Do let us know if you find out.

Haven't got a clue on the plant Jane, but just catching up on your wonderful blogs, a bit of catching up too, right back to the awful hangover, glad you have recovered! Shoes wow, want a blog on their first outing, bet you will get some amazing reactions, they look like they stepped right out of a Jilly Cooper novel. Glad the move has gone well and you are settling into your new home, it looks fab. Steak sandwiches and onion marmalade with a glass of plonk and homemade chips, nowe you're talking. All the best. Posie xx

I take it the piccie is your Baronial hall!! I'm beginning to see why you were persuaded to leave your old place now. Mind you Bats/ghost?? think I would probably prefer the bats myself, having said that a little girl running around the house would make a nice change as long as I could persuade her out of the shabby nightie into something nice and girly.

Love the chime...have just read the blog below and all the comments which already are a story on their own.
As you headed north...we headed south...I saw a sign for Dulverton...and had to remark ..'I know somebody who lives there...' didnt know I could have added ..'and she's got a ghost!'
