Limp up the stairs to the bathroom, making loud ‘give me sympathy’ noises. ‘You in the loo?’ shouts Adrian. My response is unprintable.
There’s an awful lot of hair coming out but, hey, plenty more where that came from. As long as I don’t kill the whole lot again, I’m not too worried. I have a long history of generally playing fast and loose with my follicles. I don’t think I have sported my natural colour (actually a rather nice auburn as far as I can remember) since I was sixteen.
What can I say? I get bored. I’ve resisted tattoos (would be a slippery slope) and piercings (having encountered enough bolts and screws to build a house when I was an arts journalist and a sex columnist) but hair? Easy come, easy go. I once dyed it so much it turned into green slime.
Anyhow, given I can’t exercise I have to do something to keep myself out of trouble, so I decided to give Frieda a whirl. You know, it’s not bad. The foam bit was fun. Okay, so it looked like I’d thrown up in the sink and I’ve probably poisoned the entire neighbourhood with the remains, but my hair feels sort of soft and bouncy. The colour’s a bit brown though... a bit boring. Hmm, might have to try something different... what you reckon? White? Or buck the general trend and dye it grey?
Long time back, I promised to give you a laugh... well, here you go... a few of the many and various past looks of Jane Alexander...
Is this part of the Journey? Heck yeah! One needs to look one’s best when travelling, no? ;) Not to mention looking back and laughing one's socks off...
Anyone care to take up this particular challenge and go with it on your blog? Double dare ya!

Fabulous pictures! Mine's grey and brown so a bit of a mixture, perhaps double-boring!!

Gosh Jane, what I think is that you have got fabulous hair in every one of these photos of what look like good times!
Thanks for sharing the photo album. I surely do hope that your ankle will be all mended soon.
xo
CJ: hey, badger hair! Coooool. I remember it being glossy chestnut though.
Frances: mad times, mad times! I can't find all the really funny ones... Thank you for good ankle wishes - I too hope it gets mended soon - before I do anything dafter than dyeing my hair. ;)
Ooh, you made a cracking Goth! I'm most definitely with you on the hair front - it will ALWAYS grow back so what does it matter if you shave it all off or dye it pink? It will never, ever be permanent. Unlike a tattoo, of course, which I do have and which I don't really mind but I know could be SO much nicer.... and as for piercings, I always wanted my nose done so am giving consideration to it for my half-century birthday (but that's 2 years away now). I SO don't want to grow up - can you tell?
Mrs J: Yeah, I was pretty good as a Goth... :) Nah, never grow up - it's hugely over-rated...
Dyeing hair and stuff always seemed far too medical for me and I have aphobia about medical...I just wanted to hide most fo the time so scarily I look the same now as I did at 17 just faded a bit....
PS thank god I was a plump 17 I am now still a plump 45 year old but it looks better on a 45 year old!!!!!
Wow you've always gone for it with your hair, good for you :-)
Fizzing head? Yikes! I love the old pics of your many versions of yourself, great way to live and be!
A brave post, this.

Truly amazing hair, in multiple "lives." And now being subject to (I mean "treated with") the amazing new hair foam.
Congratulations? Condolences? Take your pick.
And what a grand line: finding "enough bolts and screws to build a house when I was an arts journalist and a sex columnist." Utterly fitting.
All photos look great *impressed face*
You look like you are having a BALL in all of the pix. You lucky thing!
